Is Google Okay with AI Content?

AI content has been around for a while, and whether search engines like Google are cool with artificial intelligence remains a question. Google prioritizes quality content – not the content creation process. Does this mean Google likes AI? Not exactly. Here are my findings regarding AI content ranking and what you should consider when creating content for your site.

Does AI Content Rank?

I conducted very basic research to determine whether Google is okay with AI-generated content. I strived to be thorough with my research methodologies, but I also wanted to wrap things up in a single afternoon, and I don’t have access to a supercomputer.

That said, I took ranked content from various sites I am not affiliated with and ran it through several checkers. The results found that some of the content was likely the result of artificial intelligence, which indicates that AI content can rank.

I did not work on the content, so I cannot confirm how it was created. These results also hinge on trusting that an AI generator can correctly identify AI content.

Is AI Safe to Use?

It’s worth noting that, despite the small sample size, none of the articles were 100% AI-generated. This tells me that a person potentially used a bot to create an article and then got to work editing.

Should I Use AI Content on My Site?

It’s hard to know what’s real because many sources that say AI content is fine have their own AI generators they want you to use. On the other hand, a lot of the voices saying artificial intelligence is not cool are marketers who write content and don’t want to lose your business. Despite my belonging to this second group, I think it’s important to consider the value and pitfalls of AI.

Advantages of AI

AI-generated content can save time and is especially useful if you are not a skilled writer. The notion of routinely cranking out blog posts week in and week out is daunting for a lot of people, and artificial intelligence can potentially make that burden disappear.

Disadvantages of AI

The drawback of AI content is that it is not high-quality. You need to check facts and grammar. SEO is about positioning your brand as a knowledgeable industry leader. You want readers to understand that you are a skilled expert. AI-generated content may not help you reach this particular goal. The writing is often inaccurate, and claims or data are not supported. The content will not match your tone or style, often sounds unnatural or robotic, and is generally sloppy.

What Is Best for Your Site?

All of these issues can be fixed with a thorough edit. AI is not inherently bad; it’s more like a starting point or an outline. I suspect the articles I found that likely contained AI content underwent a significant edit to remove some of the telltale signs. 

You need to decide what is right for your business. Establishing expertise is vital. You don’t want to throw away what you’ve built up by posting artificially generated content. You also don’t want to spend a lot of time writing and editing content. This is how I can help you.
